Topic 5 Exercise 1

The many faces of you.....

Do you show multiple identities or are you consistent across all instances?

Yes I have chosen to use multiple identities. This decision has been made as I would like to limit the interaction with any students that I may have taught, are about to teach or are currently teaching. I have stayed with my first email provider and this is where the identity most true to self is used. I communicate mainly with friends through this media. My professional identity is used with my work email, as it is severely filtered (any swearing and it will bounce the email back to the sender). Recently I have joined Facebook and hope to keep the details given out to a minimum however I was taken back once I realised that it wasn't traditional chat (via email) but that others could see the comments. This was pointed out by a mate that is a mum as she had concerns about the future content and my 8yr old nephew being 'my friend'.

What does your "persistent identity" online say about you and what shouldn't it say?
My "persistent identity" gives details that I am female who is currently a teacher who lives in Australia. I try to keep details about who and where I teach vague. I try not to give out personal details unless it is using my private email.
